And just like that—it’s official. The remaining Black tennis players in the 2025 Miami Open draw have been eliminated, closing this chapter of the tournament for many fans.

In what felt like a rapid series of exits, three standout players—Gaël Monfils, Coco Gauff, and Ben Shelton—have all bowed out of the competition.

Gaël “La Monf” Monfils was handed a straight-sets defeat by Spain’s world-class talent Carlos Alcaraz, with a scoreline of 2-6, 4-6. Monfils struggled to find his rhythm against the young Spaniard.

Coco Gauff, the American fan favorite, showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately lost a three-set thriller to Caroline Garcia of France: 3-6, 6-1, 2-6. It was a high-stakes battle, but Garcia’s aggressive baseline game proved too much.

Ben Shelton was outplayed by Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, falling in straight sets 4-6, 65-7. Despite some powerful serves and bold shot selection, Shelton couldn’t crack Musetti’s versatile clay-court style.

But don’t tune out just yet—March tennis action isn’t over.

Fans can now turn their attention to two key lower-tier tournaments: the San Luis Open and the Megasaray Hotels Open. Both events feature promising talent worth watching:

  • At the San Luis Open (ATP and WTA), we’ve got Giovanni “Gio the Giant” Mpetshi Perricard, Hailey Baptiste, and Robin Montgomery taking the court.
  • Meanwhile, at the WTA Megasaray Hotels Open, Noha Akugue (Germany) will be representing strong.

tay tuned—I’ll be spotlighting Noha Akugue in an upcoming post. She’s a player with serious potential, and there’s a lot to say about her rising profile in women’s tennis.

That’s it for now. Keep following for more updates from the tennis world. I’ll see you across the net!

I’m glad Gio The Giant won a title, because from what I’ve seen, he’s kinda underrated. So, go Giovanni, and keep up the good work!
